Ontario Finance Minister Peter Bethlenfalvy will get a chance to defend his Pickering-Uxbridge seat in the Legislature after the local Progressive Conservatives chose the two-time MPP to run in the next provincial election.

“I am so grateful to have been nominated as the PC candidate for Pickering-Uxbridge,” Bethlenfalvy told supporters Monday night. “I am fortunate to be able to work with such amazing people as we ‘get it done.’”

Bethlenfalvy was first elected in 2018, earning more than 22,000 votes to easily defeat NDP candidate Nerissa Carino by more than 5,400 ballots. He increased his plurality four years later, trouncing Liberal Ibrahim Daniyal by nearly 7,000 votes.

Bethlenfalvy was named Finance Minister by Premier Doug Ford on December 31, 2020. Before he entered politics he held a series of senior financial positions, including Chief Operating Office for TD Securities in New York.
