Ontario Power Generation (OPG) has dedicated $100,000 to alleviate hunger in Durham Region.

Half of the donation will go to a bulk food purchase, while the rest goes to supporting Feed the Need’s distribution network.

Feed the Need Durham (FTND) has operated in the Region for about 20 years. They serve as a central hub for 60 local partners to distribute food to those in need.

FTND reports a 30 per cent jump in food bank usage during the pandemic. They say they have distributed 2.6 million pounds of food since April, 2020. For each dollar raised they can distribute $7 dollars worth of food.

September is the National Hunger Action month. Anyone looking to help out can donate to Feed the Need Durham.
