Orono’s BETTER Tarts takes top prize at Pickering Butter Tarts & More festival

Orono’s BETTER Tarts lived up to its name this weekend, winning Best Crust and Best Overall Butter Tart at the Pickering Butter Tarts, Hot Sauces & More Market at Esplanade Park.

The butter tart trail led to Pickering on the long weekend and organizers spiced things up with hot sauce vendors joining the party for the debut event, part of the Gotta Luv Butter Tarts Festival tour.

Fans of the ooey, gooey quintessential Canadian treat were out in full force sampling the wide selection of tarts, with Lisa Warr Filion’s classic raisin butter tart taking home the top trophy.

“Awesome day at the Gotta Luv Butter Tart Festival in Pickering today. Brought not one but two trophies back home with me to Orono. It was a ‘win-win’ kinda day for BETTER Tarts,” enthused Filion.

Other winners on the day included Omi’s Sweet Treats for Best Presentation, The King’s Daughters for Best Filling and Sweet Oven Niagara for Best Non Traditional Butter Tart.
