Girl, 13, charged with chasing second girl with a knife in Oshawa

A 13-year-old faces multiple charges after police say two girls got into a fight in Oshawa this week, with one chasing the other with a knife.

Durham Regional Police said two girls got into an argument shortly after 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday near Simcoe Street North and Britannia Avenue, a busy residential area in Windfields just north of Durham College.

According to police, the fight became physical and escalated when one of the girls pulled a knife. The girl began to make threats with the knife. When the other girl fled, the first chased her down the street, police say.

The victim received minor wounds.

A 13-year-old girl, of Oshawa, is charged with assault with a weapon, possession of a dangerous weapon and breaking a release order. She remains in custody until a bail hearing. Her name is protected by the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
