Oshawa is the cheapest city in the GTA to rent for the ninth month in a row, with rents averaging $1,724 a month for one-bedroom apartments.

Oshawa has consistently had the most affordable rents in the region since November 2023, according to data from liv.rent.

The city held on to the #1 most affordable spot despite rents rising $46 per month in June.

Downtown Toronto was the most expensive place to rent in the GTA last month, with one-bedroom apartments averaging $2,428 per month, a whopping $704 more than rents in Oshawa.

Oshawa was also the cheapest city for two-bedroom ($2,100) and three-bedroom units ($2,503), about a thousand dollars less than Toronto, where two-bedrooms go for $3,158 per month on average and three-bedroom units rent for $3,500 per month.

Average rents across the GTA were up a slim $1 in June but otherwise have been declining month-to-month since March.
