A public relations and real estate professional has been given the task of unseating NDP Oshawa MPP Jennifer French in next year’s provincial election.

Alexandra (Alex) Down is the choice for the Ontario Progressive Conservative Party and the Oshawa PC Association as Oshawa’s candidate ahead of the election next June.

Down, who has experience working with General Motors of Canada and the City of Oshawa, is currently a Director for the Durham Region Association of REALTORS.

“I am honoured to be running as your next MPP for Oshawa – a place I’ve always called home,” she said. “Though the pandemic isn’t over, we must continue to protect our progress and build the best Ontario for our families and future generations.”

Down is also a Director with the Oshawa Kicks Soccer Club and is a past member of Oshawa’s Environmental Advisory Committee and Cultural Leadership Council. She believes her passion for housing, recreation and culture has cultivated a “deep-rooted commitment” to advocacy and volunteerism in her community.

“We are proud to have Alex join our PC team ahead of the next election,” said Brian Patterson, President of the Ontario PC Party. “She will be a strong voice for the people of Oshawa as your next MPP.”

Fluent in English and French, Down holds an Advanced Diploma in Public Relations from Durham College.

“Our volunteers will be working flat-out to ensure that Alex is elected to the Legislature and provides Oshawa with the strong representation it deserves,” said Skip Hanlon, President of the Oshawa PC Association. “Oshawa will again have seat at the table in a re-elected PC government.”

French was elected to Queen’s Park in 2018 with 24,301 votes. Conservative candidate Bob Chapman – an Oshawa Councillor – finished a close second with 22,594 votes.
