Oshawa’s DeRo TFC Academy White U16 squad’s run to a provincial crown ended at the Ontario Cup final Saturday afternoon, with Oakville Blue Devils prevailing 3-1 in the title game.

Patrick Vani scored a pair for the winners, with Sam Milward getting the other marker. Joshua Geddes, who had a pair of goals in the semi-final win over Scarborough, scored the lone Oshawa goal.

The Oshawa team finished the provincial tournament right where they started back in July, where they opened the championship with a 1-0 loss to Oakville. That forced the club to get to the final the hard way, with victories over Hamilton (3-0), Ottawa (5-1) and Woodbridge (3-1) before last weekend’s 6-1 thrashing Of Scarborough in the Ontario Cup semi-final.

That match was replayed after the first attempt was postponed because of lightning strikes.
