A long-rumoured trade involving Winnipeg Jet first round draft pick Colby Barlow has finally been completed, with the Owen Sound Attack captain dealt to the Oshawa Generals for two roster players and a handful of draft picks.

Barlow has scored 116 goals for the Attack in three seasons, including back-back years with 40 or more, and was a late cut from the Winnipeg camp. He will be in the lineup this weekend at the Tribute Centre when the Generals take on the Niagara IceDogs on Friday and the Barrie Colts on Sunday.

Oshawa gave up promising defenceman David Bedkowski, forward Tristan Delisle and futures to acquire Barlow.

“It’s an exciting day to land a player like Colby. He has a proven track record of being a scorer and that will add to our already deep group of forwards. Fans will grow to love seeing #39 in red, white and navy blue,” said Generals’ General Manager Roger Hunt.

Barlow was selected 18th overall by the Jets in the 2023 NHL draft after a 46-goal season with Owen Sound that saw him named to the OHL’s first all-star team.

Internationally, Barlow helped Canada win gold at the Hlinka Gretzky Cup and bronze at the U18 World Championship during the 2022-23 season. He played three games for Winnipeg’s AHL affiliate, the Manitoba Moose, at the end of last season.
