Oshawa Generals lose in shootout; Ontario Tech squads go 0-4 on the ice and on the court

Oshawa Generals captain Ty Tullio scored twice, including the tying goal 11:29 into the final period, but it wasn’t enough as the Hamilton Bulldogs prevailed 3-2 in a shootout Wednesday night at the First Ontario Place.

Zach Paputsakis stopped 35 shots in regulation and overtime and two more in the shootout before George Diaco buried the winner for the Bulldogs.

The game goes into the books as a loss, but the extra-time point keeps the Generals point streak alive at seven straight games.

Toronto 4 Ontario Tech 1

The women’s hockey team went into Toronto Tuesday to take on the number one ranked Varsity Blues and hung tough before falling 4-1 behind Celine Frappier’s two goals. Erin Ross had the lone Ridgeback marker while Zoe McGee made 25 saves in the loss.

Nipissing 3 Ontario Tech 2

Nipissing University squared the season series with the OTU men’s hockey team, breaking open a tight 1-1 tie in the third period Wednesday in North Bay to earn the victory.

Matthew Barron opened the scoring for the Ridgebacks and Andrew Suriyuth cut the deficit to one with three minutes left but the team ran out of time.

Ontario Tech’s power play unit went 0-4 in the game.

York 79 Ontario Tech 57

On the court, a big second half for the York Lions turned a three-point lead into a 22-point victory in women’s basketball action in Oshawa last night.

Dalyssa Fleurgin led the Ridgebacks (1-11) with 17 points in the team’s first game since November 27.

York 112 Ontario Tech 68

This game was never in doubt as the Lions – led by Prince Kamunga’s 35 points – proved to be too much for the Ontario Tech men’s basketball squad, who are now 3-12 on the season.

The Ridgebacks did get some strong offensive performances from Anthony Pate and AJ Cummings, who each contributed 17 points.
