A 34 year-old Oshawa gymnastics coach is facing sexual assault and exploitation charges in relation to historic crimes from 2005-2022.

The DRPS Special Victims Unit began an investigation last month after information came forward that the suspect had touched the victim inappropriately. The suspect, who was employed by a gymnastics club in Durham Region, was identified and arrested. The name of the club is being withheld to protect the victim’s identity.

Sarah Nicholson is charged with five counts each of Sexual Assault and Sexual Exploitation. She was released on an Undertaking.

The suspect worked at the gymnastics club from 2005 to 2022 but is no longer employed there. Investigators want to ensure there are no other victims.

Anyone with new information about this investigation is asked to contact D/Cst. Firth of the Major Crimes – Special Victims Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5316.
