After spending half his life playing lotto, it seemed appropriate that a chance circumstance led to a $50,000 payout for Mathew Underwood of Oshawa.

Underwood, 37, has been playing since he was 18 and said it was a series of events to guided him to the winning ticket in the INSTANT $50K game. “I had to work late, then get gas so I decided to cash in some smaller wins for this ticket,” he recalled while at the OLG Prize Centre. “The ticket I went to pull out was a little stuck in the holder, so I took the ticket above which turned out to be the winner.”

The heavy equipment operator, who likes to play LOTTO 6/49, LOTTO MAX and INSTANT games, knew he won immediately and showed his dad, who didn’t believe him at first. “I scanned it on the OLG app and we celebrated together. I felt like I was floating.”

Underwood plans to treat dad to something special, pay some bills and invest for the future.

The winning ticket was purchased at Supervariety on Marland Avenue in Oshawa.

INSTANT $50K is available for $50 and the top prize is $50,000. Odds of winning any prize are 1 in 3.68.
