Two people have been charged after an Oshawa man allegedly pulled a gun and threatened a group of victims.
The victims called Durham Regional Police shortly after 1 a.m. on Oct. 5 to report an armed man near Simcoe St. and Conlin Rd. in north Oshawa. They alleged the man had pulled a gun and threatened to kill them.
The man then fled the area in a white Toyota. However, responding officers tracked a matching vehicle down a short way away. The officer conducted what police described as a “high-risk traffic stop” to pull the Toyota over.
They arrested a man and a woman who ere in the car and claim to have found a replica handgun in the woman’s purse. Under Canadian law, using a fake gun to commit a crime carries the same charges and penalties as using a real one.
Ahsanullah Salehi, 19 of Oshawa, is charged with using an imitation firearm to commit a crime, possession of a weapon, two counts of pointing a gun, two counts of uttering threats, assault with a weapon, carrying a concealed weapon and breach of probation. Sarah Khulmi, 18 of Pickering, is charged with carrying a concealed weapon. Salehi remains in custody but Khulmi has been released.
