An Oshawa man has been charged in connection to the kidnapping and sexual assault of a woman from Toronto.

The woman was sleeping in her car in Toronto with the doors locked on Sept. 3 when, Durham Regional Police allege, a man shattered her window and pulled her from the car. The man allegedly sexually assaulted the woman outside the vehicle.

Afterwards, he forced her back into the car and drove them both to the Heber Down Conservation Area in Whitby. The park sits between Whitby and Brooklin just south of Hwy 407. On arrival, the man threw the woman’s phone and keys into the grass to prevent her escape, police say.

Next, police allege, he pulled the woman from the car again and sexually assaulted her a second time. The woman was able to break away and use the man’s phone to call police early in the morning on Sept. 4.

Nowroz Qasim, 22, of Oshawa, is charged with two counts of sexual assault, kidnapping, assault, attempt to choke and mischief. He remains in custody pending a bail hearing.

The charges have not been proven in court.

Investigators are working to learn if there are any further victim. Anyone with information can call police at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 1852 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
