Oshawa man shot at outside home, one charged

An Oshawa man had to hit the dirt the other night after gunfire struck his home in Oshawa.
The victim was sitting outside his home near Normandy Street and Nevis Avenue, a residential block in Central Oshawa just north of Highway 401, on Oct. 29. Around 4:45 p.m. several gunshots struck the man’s house prompting numerous 911 calls.
A suspected shooter then ran from the area to a nearby house. No one was physically hurt.
When police arrived officers found several shell casings on the ground and several bullet holes in the home’s facade. The officers searched the area but the shooter was long gone.
The next day, police raided the home the shooter was seen running into. Inside they found four handgun magazines and several rounds of ammunition.
Investigators have since identified Erick Gomes, 20 of Oshawa, as a suspect. They’ve issued a warrant for his arrest on several charges including:
- firing a weapon with intent to wound,
- endangering life
- possession of a loaded firearm, and
- uttering threats of death or bodily harm
