Life is a little grander for Rolf Balentin after the Oshawa man matched all five main numbers to win a second prize of $25,000 a year for life with DAILY GRAND in the June 15, draw.
Balentin, 56, opted for the lump sum prize of $500,000 and said he usually plays LOTTO 6/49 but also plays other games occasionally. He has won some smaller prizes in the past, but this is his largest win to date.
As his parents were dropping him off at home one day, he checked his ticket on the OLG App and discovered his big win. “It was crazy,” he shared, while at the OLG Prize Centre in Toronto to pick up his windfall. He showed his phone screen to his parents and “they were just as surprised as I was!”
With his winnings, Rolf will manage his finances and complete some home renovations. He also plans to go back to school to become a physiotherapist. “This win came at just the right time,” he said.
