Oshawa’s Maxwell Heights Mustangs captured the OFSAA gold medal in boy’s baseball Wednesday with an 8-6 victory over Father Redmond of Toronto.
The north Oshawa school compiled a near-perfect 15-1 record this season and rolled through the opposition at provincial qualifying, defeating St. Joseph’s 7-3, Eastside 14-0 and Richview 2-0 at last week’s regionals in Etobicoke to qualify for the final four at London’s Labatt Park.
Maxwell Heights squeezed by Niagara Falls’ A.N. Meyer 2-1 in a thrilling semi-final before bringing out the bats for the provincial championship win over Father Redmond.
This is the first year for Ontario high school spring championships since 2019. Maxwell Heights’ senior boys lacrosse team won gold that year with a win over Peterborough’s St. Peters Saints.
