Oshawa reports 19 new COVID cases; Durham Region’s number spikes to 41

COVID-19 numbers are on the rise again after a couple of days reprieve, with new cases reported yesterday reaching 41, nearly doubling the previous day’s number.

The new hotspot is Oshawa, with 19 new cases reported Tuesday. The number of children who tested positive for the virus at EE Corpus Christi in the city – one of two schools in the region closed to in-person learning because of outbreaks – is also rising, hitting 18 yesterday.

There are 13 schools in all that have reported outbreaks, affecting 35 students. Active cases in Durham is back over 200 to 207 and there are three Durham residents in hospital, with one in ICU.

The percentage of fully vaccinated 12-plus residents is now at 84.5 per cent. With children aged 5-11 now eligible for the shot, the percentage of Durham residents aged five and up is now at 77.3 per cent.
