If fall off the bone barbecue deliciousness is your thing, get thee to Lakeview Park this weekend for Oshawa Rotary Ribfest.
Each year more than 30,000 people descend on the park to listen to live entertainment, check out the vendors and enjoy mouthwatering ribs, chicken and more.
It’s been more than 20 years since the longest running Ribfest in Durham Region was held in 2002 and the popular event has raised more than $1 million in that time, while giving visitors the best in barbecue as well as lakeside summer entertainment.
In addition to the ribbers in attendance, Oshawa Ribfest boasts a Kids Zone (with Pika Pika Parties, Art Smart Caricatures and King of the Castle); wheelbarrow draws for prizes; music from 2 For the Show, Crooked Country, Union Spring, Brock Street Band, 2U Caribbean, Xtrax, Penalty Box, British Invasion and the Almost Hip; and free shuttle service from area parking lots.
Seven world class ribbers will be firing up their grills at the event:
- Boxe Daddy BBQ
- Sticky Fingers
- Camp 31
- Billy Bones BBQ
- Silver Bullet
- Hawgs Gone Wild
- Pistol Pete’s Oklahoma Smokehouse
Another eight non-rib food vendors will also be in attendance and there will also be a craft beer (and spirits) festival in operation, with Little Beasts, Town and 5 Paddles breweries from Whitby as well as Paniza Brewing and Durham Distillery.
The City of Oshawa donates the park for the event and more 250 volunteers contribute to its success. Money raised from Ribfest goes directly back into the community through local charities and not-for-profit clubs.
Oshawa Rotary Ribfest kicks off Friday at noon and runs until 11 p.m. tonight and from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday.
