Oshawa teen charged in gunpoint cell phone robbery

A teenager from Oshawa faces charges after another teen was robbed of his cell phone at gunpoint.

Shortly before 10:30 a.m. on September 17, a suspect approached a 16-year-old boy in Aurora near Bayview Ave and Pedersen Dr. One side of Bayview Ave. hosts suburban homes while the other features large shopping plazas.

The suspect pointed a gun at the teen and demanded his phone. The suspect’s friends intervened allowing the victim a chance to run. Once safely away, the victim called police.

When police responded they found a suspect in the area. They arrested a 16-year-old from Oshawa and found a replica handgun.

The Oshawa teen, whose identity is protected by the Youth Criminal Justice Act, has been charged with robbery, carrying a concealed weapon and breach of probation.
