Oshawa is getting a second Costco warehouse, likely sometime in 2022.

Mayor Dan Carter posed in front of a ‘Coming Soon’ sign at Simcoe Street and Winchester in the city’s growing north end on his Instagram page, though there is no official word from the retail giant as to when the new store will open.

Carter is certainly happy about the news, officially unconfirmed as it may be.

“Very exciting news just announced – a brand new Costco in North Oshawa. This means more jobs, more investment and more opportunities for the great City of Oshawa.”

The new store will find a home in the RioCan Windfields Centre shopping centre, which is scheduled to open early next year.

Oshawa’s first Costco opened just a few miles south at Ritson Road and Adelaide Street in late 2012, so the new location could be a ‘Business Centre’ concept store, which caters mostly to the business community with less emphasis on televisions and apparel and deeper offerings in candy and kitchen and commercial appliances, as well as a giant walk-in cooler – with complimentary jackets so you stay cozy.

The concept, which has already been rolled out in Scarborough, St. Catharines and Gloucester in Ontario, offers deals on items like as 208-litre drums of olive oil, 4-litre bottles of maple syrup and 4.5 kg Toblerone bars.

Costco currently operates more than 100 stores in Canada with annual sales of nearly $23 billion.
