After a week of treading water in negotiations between the two sides, Ontario Tech University and its striking faculty members have agreed to work with a mediator starting this weekend.

The two sides mutually agreed to the mediator after cutting talks off Wednesday in hopes of reaching a deal and avoiding a strike.

The school and its 281 full-time faculty have been at an impasse since the strike began last Thursday, with workload being the number one item on the faculty association’s agenda.

The association wants Ontario Tech President Dr. Steven Murphy and his bargaining team to agree to binding arbitration to expedite a deal but have so far been rebuffed.
