After a season of great expectations, an OUA East championship and a national ranking of #5, the Ontario Tech men’s soccer team’s season ended in disappointment Sunday when the team lost a heartbreaking quarter-final to Nipissing on penalties.

The Ridgebacks, 11-1 on the season, opened the scoring in the 28th minute when league scoring champ Chris Campoli scored from the penalty spot.

Ontario Tech dominated possession, outshooting the Lakers 10-6 (on target) and earning eight corners to Nipissing’s three. But it was the North Bay school who got the equalizer at the death when Justin Gomes converted off a set piece in the 89th minute.

Thirty minutes of extra time decided nothing and an Ontario Tech season, so full of promise, ended with a thud when Nipissing outscored the Oshawa school 3-2 on penalty kicks.

Preparations for the 2023 season begin today.
