In a highly anticipated matchup of nationally ranked teams the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks clipped the Carleton Ravens 2-0 in Ottawa Friday night, thanks to a pair of second half goals from all-star midfielder Chris Campoli.

The sixth-ranked Ridgebacks (8-1) opened the scoring in the 63rd minute and Campoli put the game to bed against the fourth-ranked Ravens just before the end of regulation, chipping home a pass from Adam Klimek in the 89th minute for his Ontario-leading 12th goal of the season.

Matthew Mattila, the men’s Athlete of the Week for OTU, earned his fifth clean sheet of the season and ninth all-time.

Despite Ontario Tech’s victory over a higher ranked opponent – on the road, at that – the school somehow dropped a spot in the rankings released this week to seventh. Carleton dropped two spots to sixth. York University Lions (8-0-1) remain #1.

There will be a rematch between the nationally ranked squads next Saturday afternoon at Vaso’s Field in Oshawa. Kick-off is slated for 3:15 p.m.  .
The women’s team didn’t fare as well against capital city opposition on Friday, falling 6-0 to the Ottawa Gee Gees. Ottawa (9-1-1) is ranked second in the country.

Ontario Tech ‘keeper was forced to make 16 saves as the Gees completely dominated the game.

Ontario Tech is 1-6-2 on the season.
