Oshawa's Parade of Lights 2019

With two months before the big day and no applications for floats, Oshawa Santa Claus Parade of Lights chair Jodi Hewitt was starting to get a little concerned, especially as there hasn’t been a Santa Claus Parade in Oshawa since 2019, thanks to COVID-19 and the pandemic.

Fortunately for Hewett and for the child in all of us, applications for floats, dancers, bands and community groups interested in participating are starting to trickle in.

“I think time has just gotten away from everyone this year,” Hewett said. “I had received a few applications before I put the word out, but nothing like I used to have by the beginning of October, so I thought I better reach out.”

The Oshawa Santa’s Parade of Lights Committee is looking for Christmas parade enthusiasts to enter the Oshawa Santa Claus parade which is set to take place on the evening of Saturday, November 19, 2022 at 6 p.m. The application and fee details regarding the parade can be found at https://oshawasantaclausparade.org/

The parade was cancelled altogether in 2020, though Santa still delivered a message to Oshawa residents: “Just because we can’t all get together to experience the magic of Christmas this year does not mean that we cannot share the magic with those in our bubble. We can continue to keep the spirit of Christmas in our hearts as we move forward in our daily lives.”

Last year the parade was again cancelled but Santa made an appearance at the Oshawa Airport’s South Field for a drive-thru event.
