Ottawa man arrested after three bank robberies in three days in Bowmanville and north Durham

Three times was not the charm for an Ottawa man who was arrested after allegedly robbing three banks in three days in Bowmanville, Port Perry and Uxbridge.

Durham Police East Division officers responded to a robbery call Wednesday, February 21 at a TD Bank at 570 Longworth Avenue in Bowmanville. Police say a man entered the bank about 5:30 p.m., told the teller he had a gun and demanded cash.  No gun was seen and the man left the bank in a red sedan.

It is not clear if any money was stolen.

The next day North Division officers responded to a robbery call at a TD Bank location at 165 Queen Street in Port Perry. Police say a man entered the bank at about 5:45 p.m. and demanded cash, again saying he had a weapon, though no gun was seen.

The suspect obtained a quantity of cash and fled the bank.

On Friday at approximately 2:30 p.m., North Division officers were called into action again, this time to a robbery call at a Scotiabank on Douglas Road in Uxbridge.  In a repeat of the previous two crimes, a man entered the bank, indicated he had a gun (though no gun was seen) and demanded cash. The man managed to obtain a quantity of cash and fled the bank.

The robbery unit was on the scene quickly and located the suspect a short distance away.  He was taken into custody without incident.

David Duchene, 41, is charged with three counts of robbery and three counts of disguise with intent, three probation violations and possession of stolen property.
