The owner of iconic Whitby restaurant Chatterpaul’s has been charged with historic sexual assault involving one of his employees dating back to 2010.
The 32-year-old victim came forward in January with allegations of a “sexual nature” against James Chatterpaul, 55. Police allege Chatterpaul touched the victim inappropriately in the workplace.
After an investigation, Chatterpaul, a Whitby resident, was arrested and charged. He was released on an undertaking.
Investigators want to ensure there are no further victims. Anyone with new information is asked to contact D/Cst. Fitzgerald of the Central West Criminal Investigation Bureau at 905-579-1520 x 1877.
The fine dining restaurant, known for its menu that features everything from beef tenderloin & shrimp, jerk chicken and cranberry-glazed duck breast to Coco’s crab cakes and baked brie, opened in north Whitby in 2008.
The resto was launched by Chatterpaul and his business partner and front-of-house manager, Penny Johansen.
Chatterpaul’s is located at 3500 Brock St N.
