Parkwood Estate historic site in Oshawa back in business

The Parkwood Estate National Historic site in Oshawa is back in business, with Autobaron tours of the mansion returning today.

Basement Tours, an annual favourite, return Sunday for one week only.

The popular afternoon tea and tour is also back, while free garden tours have been open for some time.
Parkwood Estate was built between 1915 and 1917 and served as the home of Robert ‘Sam’ McLaughlin, the founder of General Motors of Canada, until his death – at the age of 100 – in 1972.

Inspired by early 20th-century Beaux-Arts design, the art, architecture, gardens, landscaping and original furnishings of this 15,000 square foot, 55-room mansion has been faithfully preserved.

The historic site is popular with movie makers and has served as a backdrop for such films as X-Men, Billy Madison and Hollywoodland.
