Pedestrian in critical condition after being struck by a car in Whitby

A woman is in critical condition in hospital after being hit by a car in Whitby Tuesday evening.
Durham Police responded to a call for a pedestrian struck by a vehicle near Taunton Rd W. and Baldwin St. S. at about 7 p.m. A green Toyota Highlander had been travelling westbound on Taunton Road when it hit the 49-year-old woman. The driver of the Toyota remained on scene and was cooperative with police.
The pedestrian sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre where she remains in critical condition.
Members of the Collision Investigation Unit were called to the scene and a portion of the roadway was closed for several hours while evidence was collected. The roadway has since reopened.
