UPDATE: Pedestrian struck in hit-and-run involving vehicle and bus in Whitby

UPDATE #2: Durham Police have updated their investigation, identifying the pedestrian as a 23-year-old woman. Authorities say she had just stepped off a bus and was crossing the street when she was struck by a vehicle that allegedly ran a red light. The vehicle then sped away, heading westbound on Victoria Street West from Brock Street South.


UPDATE #1: Durham Regional Police have provided updates on the recent hit and run in Whitby.

Police say the crash happened shortly before 6:30 a.m., and a woman —age not specified— was hit and rushed to a hospital where she remains in life-threatening condition.

Police are asking for the public’s help in identifying the suspect vehicle, which is described as a four-door, 2010 silver Jaguar XF. The police say there may be damage to the right passenger side.

A pedestrian was reportedly struck in a hit-and-run this morning in Whitby.

Durham Regional Police reported that the crash happened just before 11 a.m. on Consumers Drive between Brock Street and Garden Street in Whitby, involving a pedestrian, a vehicle and a Durham Transit bus.

The identity of the victim including whether they were male or female, along with their age and place of residence, has not been released by authorities. The extent of their injuries also remains unknown.

The driver of the vehicle involved in the crash reportedly fled while the bus driver remained at the scene.

A user on X (formerly Twitter) posted photos that appear to show the aftermath of the crash. The area is cordoned off by police tape with law enforcement vehicles and the apparent bus involved in the collision at the scene.
