Peterborough (and Oshawa’s) Trent U tops Macleans University Rankings for 12th year in a row

There’s something to be said about consistency, especially when what is consistent is excellence.

Trent University, with a main campus in Peterborough and a satellite campus in Oshawa, was named Ontario’s #1 undergraduate university for the 12th year in a row in the annual Macleans University Rankings

The 2023 rankings from the national news magazine also position Trent as a national and provincial leader in scholarships, student awards, innovation and reputation.

“Trent’s ranking as Ontario’s top undergraduate university, now for 12 years in a row, is a point of pride for the University,” said Dr. Leo Groarke, president and vice-chancellor at the school. “This year’s rankings once again signal Trent as a leading teaching and research university, sought after by students and faculty looking for a personal, purposeful university experience that supports personal success that impacts the world in positive ways.”

In the overall national rankings, which compare 49 Canadian universities, Trent’s reputation as a leading undergraduate university continues to shine as the #4 school overall among undergraduate universities. Trent also continues to ascend the ranks in other categories, secured the #2 spot for reputation in all of Canada, and #1 in Ontario. The university is also the #2 undergraduate school in Ontario for innovation and for producing the leaders of tomorrow.

The Maclean’s rankings reinforce Trent’s leadership as an institution where students receive the support they need to pursue academic success, ranking as the top primarily undergraduate university in Ontario for scholarships and bursaries as well as student awards, and number two in student services. The rankings also bolster Trent’s reputation as a place for global experts, ranking as the top Ontario undergraduate university for faculty awards, and number two for medical/science grants in the same category.

Another feature in this year’s results spotlights Trent’s reputation for supporting and training the next generation of educators. The Trent School of Education received special recognition and was named among the top 20 universities in all of Canada, across all categories – the only primarily undergraduate institution on the list.
