Step aside pick-your-own strawberries. Wait your turn, pick-your-own pumpkins. Pick-your-own flowers is now a thing in Clarington.

Seedy Farm, a small family-run flower farm in Hampton (just east of Oshawa) produces sustainably grown local flowers and produce. You can buy the flowers at their roadside stand or you can put your boots on and go out into the field and pick your own.

You have to buy a reserved ticket and then you can fit as many flowers as you can in a vase provided by the farm. You can also bring your own vase to transfer your freshly picked flowers in case you don’t want or need to keep the provided vase. “We are environmentally focused,” Seedy Farm noted on their web site, “and completely understand if you don’t want or need an extra vase.”

To see what flowers are in bloom, check out the In Bloom page for details of expected flowers and bloom times. You’ll need to bring your own trimmer or and guidance will be given on how to best harvest flowers.

After that it’s up to you, with free reign to cut and create your own beautiful bouquets within a two-hour time slot.

Adult prices are $40. Children six and under who are not cutting flowers are free.

Children (7-12 ) can have a smaller vase for picking at $20 (when accompanied by a paying adult) and seniors (65+) pay $35.

Seedy Farm is located at 1513 Concession road 7 in Clarington, with the driveway about 100 metres east of the family home.

Pick your own flowers is rain or shine. Washrooms, unfortunately, are not available.

There are available dates for flower picking on Saturday through to Thursday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Seedy Farm was created out of a desire to develop an environmentally conscious Canadian floriculture industry. Most cut flowers for sale at local shops are imported, which means they have a higher CO2 footprint. Seedy Farm provides sustainably grown local cut flowers and produce to combat this trend.

Seedy Farm also has a multi-variety fruit orchard, with apples, berries, cherries, nectarines, plums, peaches, pears, pumpkins and more available for sale.
