The City of Pickering is looking for ideas from the public on how to plan for the city’s future, including a ‘Big Idea’ to be made a priority by planners.

Pickering is developing its first Corporate Strategic Plan and wants to know what matters most to residents, who are being encouraged to Complete a survey for a chance to win prizes and to offer with a big idea for council to work with.

Some of those ideas already received by staff include:

  • Lower property taxes for seniors
  • Better roads
  • More curling rinks
  • Better traffic control downtown
  • Better walkability and transit
  • Develop the waterfront
  • “Make our mall great”
  • Good governance
  • A “reasonably priced” restaurant by the waterfront

The plan will identify a vision, goals, and key actions to be achieved over this term of Council and beyond. Public feedback will help better inform the City’s plan and related recommendations, which will be presented to Council later this year.

Residents and business owners are asked to share their thoughts by August 31 to win prizes, including Apple AirPods, a fire station tour and a one-year health club membership at the Chestnut Hill Developments Recreation Complex.

More information on the survey and about the plan, the process and the expected outcomes will be available at a virtual information session at two time slots July 26. Register (here) with a preferred session.
