Pickering man accused of child luring over social media

A Pickering man faces several charges after alleged attempts to lure children into sexual activity over social media messaging apps.

Richard Ramnarine, 46 of Pickering, has been under investigation by the Internet Child Exploitation Unit for much of July after he tried to lure someone he believed was a 14-year-old.

Durham Police claim Ramnarine used ChatIW and Snapchat to communicate with the individual using the respective display names “Genini” and “richard_ramna23.”

Investigators raided Ramnarine’s home near Kingston Road and Brock Road on July 24. He was arrested at the home without incident.

Ramnarine is charged with;

  • luring for sexual assault,
  • luring to make child pornography, and
  • making child pornography.

He remains in custody until a bail hearing. The charges have not been proven in court. Police are concerned there may be more victims and have ask any to come forward.
