A Pickering man arrested in a stolen car also faces several weapons charges following a later police raid at his home.

York Regional Police officers were on patrol near Fairburn Dr. and Hwy. 7 in Markham on June 5. Around 3:30 a.m. they spotted a black Range Rover in a mall parking lot. The officers soon learned the car had been reported stolen from Toronto.

They went over to investigate and arrested two people sitting inside the Range Rover. They searched the car and found a loaded semi-automatic pistol inside. Due to this discovery, the police later raided a home in Pickering.

During the raid, they found a loaded pistol in a bedside table and a loaded shotgun in a closet.

Sheldon Gayle, 35 of Pickering, is charged with seven offences including three counts of careless firearm storage, concealed carry, and possession of stolen property over $5,000.

Sarah Jackman, 36 of Toronto, was also charged with possession of stolen property.

“Thanks to the hard work of our frontline officers, three guns have been taken off of our streets,” said Chief Jim MacSween. “Our commitment to ensuring the safety of our community will continue to be our top priority.”
