The Pickering Panthers won their first Division crown in 35 years Wednesday when they blanked the Collingwood Blues 3-0.

Ryan Johnstone and Ian Martin staked the ‘Cats to a 2-0 first period lead and Elijah Pilosof added the insurance marker 5:25 into the third to seal the win and the series 2-0.

The Panthers’ only league championship in their 50-year existence came 36 years ago in 1986 and the club still has the Milton Menace, who took out the Burlington Cougars Tuesday night, to contend with before they can dream about league titles.

The series is expected to be tightly contested. Pickering finished the regular season with 39 wins and 82 points while Milton had 36 wins and 79 points.
