Pickering Town Centre turns 50 with daily $50 gift card giveaways

Pickering Town Centre is officially 50 years old, and the mall is going all out to celebrate this huge milestone.

Located in the heart of Pickering at Kingston and Liverpool Road, the mall has been the city’s biggest shopping hub since 1972 (back when it was called Sheridan Mall).

Having seen so much history over the past 50 years, PTC is celebrating appropriately: throughout October, drop in to snap a photo inside one of their new selfie rooms, inspired by change rooms from the past five decades. Experience (or relive) all the trends of the 70s, 80s, 90s and beyond while snapping some fun pics for Insta!

Those who stroll down memory lane might just get lucky – PTC is giving away a $50 gift card each day of the month to someone who posts a picture from one of the selfie rooms using the hashtag #PTC50.

“Pickering Town Centre has experienced so many incredible moments over the past 50 years and we want to celebrate with the community that made it possible for us to reach this milestone,” says Lorna Murphy, Marketing Director at PTC.

Shoppers can also stop by the gallery wall at Centre Court, highlighting memorable moments captured at the mall throughout the past half century.

PTC wants to hear from the community: What are some of your favourite memories of the mall during the last 50 years? Do you remember the Flea Market on Sundays, shopping at K-Mart, or visiting Santa’s Castle?

Whatever it is, add your memory to the wall or share it on your socials (Facebook and Instagram) and tag @pickeringtowncentre on the post.

For each memory shared, the mall plans to donate $1 to the Alzheimer Society of Durham Region, up to $1000 total.

Tap donation machines have also been set up inside the mall for shoppers who want to donate directly to the org.

“Our shoppers have shared so many memories with us over the years, so in the spirit of creating even more, we want to support the Alzheimer Society, an organization that continues to support so many,” says Murphy.

The Alzheimer Society of Durham Region is a charitable organization that provides education, counselling, and support programs to those living with Alzheimer’s and their care partners.

With 50 years under its belt, Pickering Town Centre continues to combine shopping, dining and entertainment in a massive, 710,000 square foot space.

The centre boasts more than 140 stores and services, a multi-screen movie theatre complex, six dine-in restaurants, and a 15-restaurant food court with over 350 seats. No matter what you’re looking for, you’ll almost certainly find it here.

For some fun selfies and a chance to win a gift card, be sure to visit the mall anytime in October to celebrate Pickering Town Centre’s birthday. Here’s to 50 more years!
