Pickering’s Shawn Mendes up for four Juno Awards

Pickering pop superstar Shawn Mendes is up for four major Juno Awards, including Album of the Year and Artist of the Year.

The nominations for the Junos – Canada’s premier music celebration – were announced today (March 1) and Mendes is up for Artist of the Year against music heavyweights Justin Bieber, TheWeeknd, JP Saxe and Charlotte Cardin.

Mendes’ album Wonder was nominated for both Album of the Year and Pop Album of the Year (with the nominations in the latter category revealed by Toronto Maple Leaf star Austin Matthews) and Mendes was also nominated in the TIKTOK Juno Fan Choice Award.

Wonder is up against Phoenix (Charlotte Cardin), Dangerous Levels of Introspection (JP Saxe), Justice (Justin Bieber) and Too Young to be Sad (Tate McRae) in the Album of the Year category. For Pop Album of the Year his competition is Phoenix, Justice, Too Young to be Sad and How Are You by Jessia.

He has nine other pop stars to compete with in the TIKTOK Fan Choice Award, including Bieber, TheWeeknd, Cardin and Pressa Pressa, among others.

Mendes has won eight Juno Awards and has been nominated for three Grammy Awards as well.

The 2022 Juno Awards will be held May 15 at the Budweiser Stage in Toronto, with live performances by the Arkells, Avril Lavigne, Charlotte Cardin and Mustafa. The event will be hosted by Mississauga’s Simu Liu, the star of Marvel’s Shang Chi: The Legend of the Ten Rings.
