Proposed Pickering CityCentre project

The ambitious Pickering CityCentre project is expected to transform downtown Pickering in the coming years, with 12,000 residential units (and 130,000 square feet off office space and the jobs that go with it) on tap for the 55-acre community.

New residents mean new students and the City of Pickering wants to start the planning for new schools started now, with council asking staff to work “collaboratively” with developers and local school boards to “review current student accommodation and school sites” and “explore options for integrating school space into high-density developments.”

The idea is to integrate school space into new high-density, mixed-use
projects planned for downtown, “creating more opportunities for students to attend school within their community.”

The Pickering City Centre project (led by a partnership between CentreCourt Development, Salthill Capital and Cowie Capital) is one of the largest and most ambitious mixed-use developments in Canada and will be tied into the shopping mall, which recently rebranded from Pickering Town Centre to Pickering ‘City’ Centre.

The project will see a 55-acre community with 12,000 residential units in 20 mixed-use condominium developments with heights ranging from nine to 55 storeys.
