The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) cleared two Durham Regional Police Service officers in the death of a man found outside an Oshawa building.
On March 3 this year, police responded to a call at a building on Simcoe Street in Oshawa for a wellbeing check around 4 a.m., the SIU said in their investigation report.
The SIU investigates death, serious injuries or allegations of sexual assault following Ontario police interactions.
The family of a 37-year-old man asked for help in getting him apprehended under the Mental Health Act as he appeared to be in a mental health crisis, the SIU said.
Attending officers met with the man but did not take him.
About an hour after the officers left, the man was found dead after a fall through a window.
The SIU found no reasonable grounds to believe the two officers committed a criminal offence in connection with the death.
