Police have released more information about Durham Region’s third murder investigation of the year, identifying the woman found dead in Pickering last weekend and her elderly roommate who was arrested as a suspect.

The woman’s body was found in a wooded area near Pickering’s Concession Road 9 and Sideline 28 around 10:30 p.m. February 20. Investigators took over the scene, and announced the morning of February 21 they were treating the death as suspicious.

By that evening police had a 72-year-old woman in custody charged with second-degree murder. Officers secured a home on Fairway Drive in Wilmot Creek, Clarington to search for evidence by this time. Police had not yet identified either woman, waiting for the results of an autopsy.

A few days later, on February 24, police identified the victim as Terri Johnson, 52 of Clarington.

Her roomate, Barbara Kennedy, 72 of Clarington, is charged with second degree murder and interference with a dead body.
