Updated: Police investigate stabbing at locked down Whitby high school

A Whitby high school is on lockdown as police investigate a stabbing.
Durham Regional Police announced Father Leo J. Austin Catholic Secondary School at 1020 Dryden Blvd. was on lockdown as of 12:30 p.m. Sept. 18. By then, investigators were already on scene to investigate the stabbing.
The school sits in a suburban neighbourhood in the town’s north end. It is surrounded by homes, and greenspace and is next to St. Bernard’s Catholic Elementary School.
However, police had little other information to share at the time of their update. The circumstances of the attack and who was involved remain unknown as yet. Police did confirm they would share more information as it becomes available.
Update: 12:40 p.m.: Police have announced they have one person, who they did not describe, in custody. Another person has been rushed to a Toronto hospital. Police did not disclose the injured party’s condition. The lockdown has been lifted.
