Police make arrest after two stabbings in downtown Whitby

Durham Police investigators have charged a man in connection with two separate stabbings that occurred in Whitby in December, including one on Christmas Day,
On Friday, December 2, at approximately 6:30 a.m., members of Central West Division responded to a stabbing incident near Dunlop Street East and Brock Street South. Officers located a 51-year-old man with life-threatening injuries. The victim was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre.
Twenty-three days later and just one block from the first stabbing, police responded to a noontime stabbing incident near Gilbert Street East and Brock Street South on Christmas Day. Officers located a 52-year-old man with serious injuries. The victim was transported to a Toronto-area trauma centre where he remains in stable condition.
Arnold Chan, 32, of Toronto, is charged with two counts of aggravated assault, two counts of assault with a weapon and two counts of possession of a dangerous weapon.
He was held for a bail hearing.
