Missing boater
Fred has been missing from Frenchman's Bay in Pickering since Sept. 29, 2023

It’s been seven months ago since a Pickering senior left Frenchman’s Bay Marina for an afternoon sail and police and his family are asking the public to “remain vigilant” on the waterways this summer for any clues to his disappearance.

Manfred (Fred) has been missing since Sept. 29 of last year when he boarded his sailboat ‘Passat’ at approximately 12:30 p.m. He was reported missing four days later when police attended his home near Bayly Street and St. Martins Drive for a wellness check.

Officers were able to pinpoint his last appearance but the 87-year-old man has not been seen since.

Fred is described as white with a medium build, 5’10, with grey hair.  He was last seen wearing an orange/red hat, blue shirt, and beige pants. His sailboat is 25-footer with a blue haul and Ontario ID 50E99759.

Anyone who has any information on Fred or his boat is asked to contact their local police service. In Durham Region, contact A/Det. Beline of the West Division Criminal Investigations Bureau at 1-888-579-1520, ext. 2541.

Anonymous information can be sent to Durham Regional Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) or online at www.durhamregionalcrimestoppers.ca and tipsters may be eligible for a $2,000 cash reward.
