Police want answers after reports of ‘active shooter’ at Clarington high school declared false

A report of an active shooter in a Clarington high school that prompted a lockdown and a “substantial” police investigation turned out to be false, prompting a new police investigation into the incident.
Durham Police responded to reports of an “active shooter” at Courtice Secondary School on Nash Road at 11:35 Thursday morning after a “third party agency” received a call from someone claiming to be in the school who was witnessing an active shooter incident.
Police arrived on scene and met with school staff who promptly put the school into lockdown. Officers, with the assistance of the DRPS Tactical Support Unit, searched the school to ensure there was no active shooter or victims. Further investigation determined the report to be false.
This investigation is ongoing.
