A popular pool in Clarington’s Orono community is temporarily closed due to “technical issues.”

According to a news release on the town’s website, the Orono Park Pool (61 Princess St.) was closed on July 13. The town did not provide additional details about the technical problems, but said staff are working to reopen the pool “as soon as possible.”

The news comes less than a month after the pool’s summer grand opening on June 22.

Located in north Clarington, Orono Park offers more than just a pool. Affectionally known by locals as ‘Buttercup Hollow Park,’ the space is home to a playground for children ages 2 to 12, tennis and pickleball courts (available on a first-come, first-served basis from May to October), the Orono Skateboard Park, a softball diamond (with lights), picnic tables and a splash pad.

The park and splash pad are open from dawn to dusk.

Orono Park celebrated its centennial last year. The village of Orono, which is nearing its bicentennial, was founded in 1832 and incorporated as a ‘Police Village’ in 1854. Buttercup Hollow Park, then known as Orono Memorial Park, was established in 1923.

On its website, the town says updates about the pool will be posted as they become available.
