The team manager of a minor hockey team in north Durham has been charged with embezzlement after funds for the club were “misappropriated,” police say.
Jennifer Henry of Port Perry is charged with fraud over $5,000. The 42-year-old woman was released on a promise to appear.
Durham Police say the Financial Crimes Unit launched an investigation into missing funds from the North Durham Minor Hockey Association team on August 20. The missing cash was intended for use for travel expenses during the 2023-24 hockey season.
The woman was taken into custody without incident and police are appealing for any potential victims related to this investigation to come forward, as investigators believe there may be additional victims.
Anyone with information about this or similar incidents is asked to contact D/Cst. Reeves of the Financial Crimes Unit at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 5241.
