A new condo tower is set to be built in Oshawa’s north end, bringing 142 new units to the Durham College and Ontario Tech University area.

The seven-story tower, dubbed Treehouse Studios, is set to occupy 1664 Simcoe St. N, which is currently home to a single-story house on the corner of Niagara Drive. The site sits just 500 metres from the college and university campus. The new building will feature several amenities including a gym, study lounges, rooftop access, and a party room with a kitchen.

The single house at 1664 Simcoe St. North will soon be replaced with 142 new condo units.

Karmina Developments has overseen the design and will lead construction. They’re also responsible for a 21-unit townhouse in Courtice and a pending tower in Bowmanville on the former site of the Goodyear rubber plant. However, the building is still in the pre-construction phase and does not have a projected start date yet.

While Simcoe St. has seen many such developments over the past few years, the areas just off the street, such as Niagara Dr, remain mostly single homes. As a result, the project faced some opposition from area homeowners, largely concerned with increased density and parking difficulty.
