The 2-year-olds were on display at Ajax Downs’ Quarter Horse racing on August 23 in two Trials for the Ontario Sires Stakes Futurity, which has its $55,000 final on September 13. The filly Pretty Magicall won the second, and fastest Trial for the OSS Futurity, speeding to a three-quarter length win in the 330 yard dash in a time of 17.375 (seconds) for an 82 speed index.
Owned and bred by Milena Kwiecien of Burlington and trained by Jason Pascoe, Pretty Magicall and jockey JB Botello were sent off at 7 to 2 odds and led all the way after breaking from post position one. Feisty Feebee was second over heavily favoured Sugar N Pride, who was a neck back in third. Pretty Magicall, bred by Heste Sport in King, is a daughter of Kwiecien’s stallion Maryland Magic from the mare Pretty Jane Perry.
The first Trial was won by General Skywalker, a big, sorrel gelding by Look at Magics Form. owned and bred by Marie Broadstock and trained by Bob Broadstock. Ridden by Ramiro Castillo, General Skywalker powered to a three-quarter length win in 17.450 for an 80 speed index, edging first-time starter The Zing Dynasty with favoured Snow Magically Sweet in third.
The 2-year-olds with the 10 fastest times from the two Trials will advance to the final.
