Doggy Dip

Most dogs adore water and a chance for a splash in a normally taboo human water environment like a swimming pool, well, what water-loving canine could object?

The pups will get their chance September 4 at the outdoor pool at Camp Samac in north Oshawa for Doggy Dip, an event sponsored by Rens Pets.

Dog owners can register their dogs for a 30-min swim, with time allocations based on their size. All proceeds support Oshawa Animal Services. Donations of kiddie pools, linens, and new dog toys are also welcome.

Small dogs and puppies will hit the water between 4:30 and 5 p.m.; medium and large dogs from 5 to 5:30 p.m. and all dogs are welcome to two evening sessions between 5:30 and 6 p.m. and from 6 to 6:30 p.m.

The cost is $9.99 per pooch and 20 dogs per time slot can be accommodated.

Some doggy rules to be followed:

  • Friendly dogs only
  • No humans in the pool: it’s only for pooches
  • Owners are responsible for their own dog in and out of the pool
  • Dogs must be on the leash at all times outside of the pool area
  • Poop and scoop required
  • No treats or food in the pool – toys allowed
  • Lifejackets recommended but not required

(Owners will be contacted before the event to provide proof of mandatory rabies vaccination for their registered dogs.)
