A rare First World War tank is now safely across the border and on display in the Military Vehicle Conservation Centre at the Canadian Tank Museum in Oshawa.

The M1917 is an important vehicle in the history and development of tanks from the early decades of the 20th century and the museum hopes it will help tell the story of the Canadian Armoured Corps.

The tank, an American version of the Renault FT light tank, was acquired from the now closed family-run AAF Tank Museum in Danville, Virginia.

The Canadian Tank Museum, located off Stevenson Road north of Rossland Road on the Oshawa Executive Airport grounds, is open Thursday to Saturday from noon to 4 p.m.
